Everyone knows that feeling when you wake up after a heavy night of drinking and you are not sure if you will to be able to move or not. Yes, I’m talking about that awful feeling inside your body called a hangover. And because Barcelona is famous for its amazing parties, you will definitely get one when visiting this vibrant city. From boat parties to exclusive clubs, there are so many events to attend when visiting Barcelona. Often these parties provide you free drinks or nice actions which can lead to overconsumption of alcohol. But although during the night itself everything is awesome without any worries, you might sometimes regret your alcohol consumption the day after. Hangovers are the worst, especially with the hot Spanish weather here. If you had a crazy night with a lot of alcohol but you still want to do some sightseeing the next day without feeling awful, follow these tips about how to stop a hangover and you will be fine!

What to eat?

Maybe you won’t be hungry after a night full of drinking, especially when you had some late-night snack after the party. But having breakfast or in most cases brunch is very important because alcohol lowers your blood Sugar. So, try to eat something with a high glycemic index, such as baguette, bagels, waffles, crackers etc. Besides that, it is proven that eating eggs and bananas will also decrease your hangover. Combine it with oats and you will feel better in no time. If you are craving something more savory, eat miso soup or chicken noodle soup. It will help restock sodium and water levels in the body, the chicken contains cysteine, which gives the liver a boost.  So, unlike what a lot of people think, fast food won’t cure your hangover. Thus, fill your body with some healthy foods to feel better.

What to drink?

After a heavy night of drinking, you might have got a dry mouth because your body is totally dehydrated. For this reason, you should refill it with something sugary like apple juice or another healthy juice, except for orange juice because of its acidity. In fact, fruit juices are a good way to cure a low blood sugar. So, visit one of the boqueria’s in Barcelona and get yourself a healthy juice. Another drink that can heal your hangover is water of course. It will help hydrate your body and reduces the leftover byproducts in the stomach. Adding salt and sugar to water helps replace the sodium and glycogen your body lost the night before. Sport drinks like blue Aquarius or coconut water will also make you feel better because it will improve your hydration level. And last but not least, try bouillon soup or ginger tea because it contains loads of vitamins and minerals.

What to do?

The most important thing to stop your hangover, is getting enough sleep. Alcohol will disrupt the second part of your sleep, so it is normal that you feel really tired after a night out. Make sure you are rested when you wake up, so you won’t feel bad that day. Besides that, a good way to decrease your hangover is doing some sports like going for a run. It will give your body more energy and you will sweat out all the alcohol from the day before. Also, practicing yoga will make you feel better because breathing and meditation exercises can get oxygen flowing and blood pumping to help relieve stress. And if you are feeling way too bad to move, you can take a pain killer such as ibuprofen, which will help you getting through this hard day.
